The “5:1 ratio” (if it was real) of blokes to shielas implies that women will be in very high demand because of their scarcity. Since they would want to satisfy the equilbrium ratio of 1:1 without killing off blokes, this would mean that a population spurt of women - eveny ugly* ones - would be very welcome. (This summarizes the statement, I think).
If I am to analyze this objectively and dispassionately, his proposal to recruit “ugly women” to boost the population would be a failing one because balancing the numbers of both genders is not the end point itself but in marrying them off to increase the population.
Let’s say an “ugly guy” is thrust upon a swarm of beauties. This would not create an instant attraction to the lone ranger; it just means that he has a lot of choices and they have only him as their other option. Eliminating choices does not mean that it’s more probable that they would decide because “not choosing” will alwas be an option.
An illogical plan + crude comment = disaster.
*I use ugly in the broadest sense and not just the other end of the spectrum of physical beauty.
